Spring is around the corner…

Although it doesn’t feel like it in Ottawa.  I’m tired and have a cold of some sort, my wife is tired and has a cold, and the little guy has a cold–not sure if he’s tired.   I can’t wait until the snow is melted away.

They say that living in a northern climate makes you appreciate the spring that much more–I believe it.  Especially as a new father.

Changes

As a delinquent blogger, I feel I should produce an update.  I’m in the middle of internal job change, so I am doing two jobs at once.  Changing jobs in the baby’s 1st year of life is doable, but an internal job change means you cannot completely leave your previous position’s tasks.  Overall I’m quite keen on the new job, more later.  Change is good.

Speaking of change, as the little man grows up it’s amazing how he’s changed.  In talking to relatives who do not get to see him as much, they also tell us how he’s changed since they have seen him. He gargles more sounds, smiles at people he knows, has more control of his hands and fingers, and I believe can focus from a distance.  So many changes.  Change is good!

Sleep II

Back to sleep again.  Our little guy has decided to not sleep during days and barely at nights.  It’s not that he is colicky or crying a lot.  He just likes to be up, and cries sometimes when we try to put him to bed.  Maybe he doesn’t need sleep–he could be a super human mutant baby!  More likely he is trying to torment his parents (mostly mom) by being awake for long periods of time.  Time will tell if he is a super-baby or not….

Sleep

It feels like we are finally getting this sleep thing worked out.  My wife does most of the waking up in the middle of the night (she’s still breastfeeding)–and I take him every morning for a little while and let her sleep in.  It seems like we’re finally getting it, for now at least.  The dog and cats seem to have adjusted, as well.

I still can’t wait for the weekends in a way I never did pre-baby.  Friday night is veg out time (instead of party time).  Anyhoo, till next post.

Bad Week for Work/Life Balance

I’ve been very busy with work this week, and feel like I am not being as supportive of my wife as I should be.  We’ve also had social engagements that have added to the pressure.  We’re trying to get over the Christmas holiday craziness, but it seems like we’re behind.  The weekends are our best chance to get things cleaned up, but with a couple of social visits–we’re done in.  Any advice out there on how to establish a good work/home/social balance with the addition of a new child?

Negligent Blogger

Well, I’ve been a pretty negligent blogger–almost 2 months since the last one!  Too busy trying not to be a negligent father I suppose.

Life with the little one has been pretty exciting so far.  Exciting and tiring.  It used to be that by Friday, I would be ready to whoop it up.  Now by Friday I just want to sleep.  Life has changed.

I can’t complain too much.  Every now and then I see an episode of John and Kate plus eight.  Wow, if they can do it with 8 kids, surely I can manage 1 (plus 1 dog and 2 cats–I notice they do not have any pets, probably a good thing).

 Anyhoo, I’m back…

Great Gift

I have a friend who sent us some great baby gifts.  They sent us a book on safe baby handling (funny–I will look up where to get it), and a gift that will predict his future.  We’ll see how accurate it is…

Dirt vs. Clean

Recently we have been hearing that if we keep our kids too clean, we risk them developing more allergies and other problems.  This brings up the quandary of what is too clean when creating the environment for the child to grow up in.  The linked article from the CBC website explores the research, but doesn’t come up with a conclusion.

I guess we’ll just take it as it goes.
